BEHIND THE HUSTLEShyanne Clarke

Sharing your start-line stories to inspire your why and dig deeper into your how game.

This week, we tracked down the beach-worshipping print designer and entrepreneur, OCer Shyanne Clarke from Printsea, based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. We discovered how quality art, edgy books and Disney have shaped this Australian Swimwear Fabric Designer into a kickass business woman spreadin’ her sparkle.

OC: It’s a sexy word that FEELS BIG, but what does the new breed of “entrepreneur” really mean in your world?

SC: I guess for me, it feels like someone who is in the start up stage of their business and chasing their sparkle!

OC: What’s your elevator tweet?

SC: I design swimwear fabric prints for bikini designers.

OC: You open your eyes, take a deep breath, what gets you movin’ to meet the sun?

SC: Coffee and kids. But also sunny days, beach runs and a new print design that inspires me.

OC: WE ARE STALKING YOU {in a loving, totes not creepy way} – what will we see?

SC: Wake up, meditate for 10 mins, Insta post, then hectic for an hour of kids lunches, dressing kids, dressing myself, breakfasts and school run.

Crazy out with a beach run and then by 10am its business time, designing, taking photos of what I have designed for social media, list ticking of what needs to be done in my biz and what I can do to grow my biz.

Multi tasking of the latest book I want to read on Audible or listening to podcasts until 2.30 – when its back to the school run, homework, dinner, showers and bedtime stories.

Finally, maybe some wine and snuggle time with the hubby and finishing off with a 10 minute meditation before bed at around 9.30!

OC: You’re a fictional character = who + why?

SC: The Little Mermaid or Darryl Hannah in Splash, because I can’t get enough of the ocean.

OC: What’s the brick wall challenge you are scalin’ like a ninja right now?

SC: Just a few weeks ago it was having clarity of what I should be focusing on, but after joining High End Hustlers with Pru, it is like my whole world has changed overnight.

I’ve got a focused plan in place now and I feel like in my business I can really enjoy it. To be honest some days I feel a bit lost because I have so much time back on my hands, I actually forgot how to just relax!

Ultimately I am working smarter not harder and Pru helped put that business plan in place, it was like I was too close to it, I just couldn’t see it. Now I have time to think and my business is benefiting from creative ideas that have space to grow in my head.

I still have the fear blocks when I think I am not good enough to do this, but I am aware of this fear and I am leaning into it now, instead of pretending its not there.

Having the community around me to be vulnerable, get advice and reassurance has been invaluable, especially because the women that I am speaking with, actually understand what I am going through and where I am at.

We are building a conscious business together that the rest of my friends, family and even the world, doesn’t necessarily always understand.

OC: EPIC books + podcasts that have blown the matrix of your mind?

SC: I always recommend ‘The Slight Edge’ by Jeff Olsen, I have been so impatient in my life, my whole life and it just resonates that the baby steps are what gets you the big results. Its like that old ad, ‘it wont happen overnight, but it will happen.’

OC: What’s your coffee religion and how do you worship?

SC: I always get lattes, I haven’t actually tried any of the others, but piccolos seem to be so popular, I really should mix it up. What does it say about me, not sure, maybe I stick with things that are doing the job or I just like milky coffee.

OC: Insta quote that has you stroking your white cat + planning world domination?

SC: ‘If you can dream it, you can do it,’ Walt Disney. I’m just a big believer in this, maybe its my fairytale heart taking over, but my whole world is about chasing your sparkle and I think Walt has helped me to see that.

OC: You get your very own misty, dream sequence in a movie of your life, where 3 people alive or dead come to you like the ghosts of the Christmas past, present, future – who makes the cut?

SC: Walt Disney – his passion for quality in art and amazing imagination is something I have always admired.

Samantha Wills – the one event I have been to that she has spoken at, blew me away, what a clever, clever business woman. Actually some advice she offered was, always give more than expected, if you read the story about how she came to be the Creative Director of Yellowglen, it really shows that she is a savvy business brain.

Me at age 4, I’d love to have little chats with myself when the world was still only sparkles and magic in my eyes.
