Introducing our new series : RIP Corp Life.
Thinking of leaving your corporate gig and starting your own business? Let our crew of entrepreneurs inspire you with their stories of how they made the leap from #corplife to running their own show.
RIP Corp Life is bite sized interviews with BIG impact and short enough to consume on your morning tea break.
Over the next 10 weeks, we’re highlighting epic humans from our community that have moved away from the free morning teas, lunchtime yoga sessions and stepped into their life purpose.
We are wrapped to have our first guest, Mikeila Scheckenbach from Bandit Design Group. Mikeila is part of our High-End Hustlers community, and is currently part of our UpLevel program at Owners Collective. Today she tells us how she went from her corporate gig to running her own show at Bandit Designs.
RIP Corp Life with Mikeila Scheckenbach
What was the aha moment you had that made you want to leave #corplife?
I don’t know if I had a specific aha moment, more of a constant pull in the direction of running my own show.
I really craved choice and freedom in my life, and the feeling of being tied to my desk in the office was a huge roadblock to accessing this for myself.
What was the first step in taking the leap?
The first step for me was to reduce my hours down to part-time to create space for my side-gig to build up before biting the bullet and leaving completely. Doing it this way allowed me to dip my toes in and test the waters before taking the leap of faith.
What has surprised and delighted you about running your own show?
No two days are the same when you run your own show. Some of the big highlights are having the ability to run your own schedule, move and change at lightning speed, and creating a unique workplace and culture that supports the people in it.
The one thing you will actually miss about #corplife?
I definitely miss the extravagant morning teas (I’m sure my waist doesn’t)! The many, many birthdays which were celebrated with cakes, cheese and chocolate – all the good stuff!
