Pru: In my world, I see business is a vehicle for fuelling a purpose filled life. So I fill my days in the best possible way – working with entrepreneurs, businesses and individuals to help them connect with what they want to do + achieve, and then helping them make that happen.
We’re just about to launch the Owners Collective, which is incredibly exciting as we’re going to vastly increase our reach + impact. We’ve brought together an incredible bunch of industry leaders for entrepreneurs to learn from, these are real business owners giving real advice. They’re all disruptors in their own industry, doing things their way and creating awesome businesses out of doing it – and that’s the kind of stuff we want to share around.
OC: HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
Pru: My definition of success if fairly simple. It’s waking up happy + energetic about what I do with freedom and choice in my lifestyle.
OC: WHAT KICK ASS DAILY HABITS DO YOU HAVE IN PLACE?
Pru: The morning is crucial for me in getting the day set up right, so I kick start the morning with a quick 10 minute meditation focused on gratitude, compassion + goals. Then I get plenty of water and a green smoothie in before getting my body moving. I love crossfit and head there 3 to 4 times a week, otherwise I’m running or swimming in the ocean.
Getting moving is essential for me – it keeps me focused, happy and energised. While I stay local through the week, on the weekends I always head out for a big hike, it clears the head and gets me connected with what’s real.
OC: WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Pru: So many things! My adorable one year old Labrador puppy, Maverick has to be up there – he’s just the most ultimately happy little guy which is just infectious! I have a great family + friends that I love spending time with especially deep in conversation about really drilling into living out our passions through our businesses. Spending time alone also really makes me happy. I love the buzz of adventure + travel – which is firmly on the agenda this year!
OC: TELL US ABOUT A HIGH POINT IN YOUR CAREER
Pru: Launching the Owners Collective has been an incredible high point. Mostly because of the incredible people and businesses that I get to collaborate with. I honestly need to pinch myself sometimes in awe at the people around me.
OC: CAN WE ASK FOR A LOW POINT? WHAT DID YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GET OUT OF THERE?
Pru: Ha! An absolute pearla would have had to have been crying on the Opera House steps on my birthday (no less), with hardly a cent in the bank. It was definitely a low point. I was working too much, for too little in return, and had hit the limit of coping capacity!
One of my favourite sayings is ‘this too shall pass’, and that’s what got me through that time (and many others). It’s just a little reminder that no matter what gets presented to you – it will always change, and not to be attached.
OC: TEA OR COFFEE?
Pru: Coffee. Always.
OC: HOW DO YOU GENERATE NEW IDEAS?
Pru: I clear the decks, get out a big roll of butchers paper, a bunch of colourful sharpies and just go for it! The ideas typically spill out, one thing leads to another, and after a few hours of random brainstorming I get it into a timeline to move forward with.
I find creativity has it’s own agenda. I can’t dictate the time and place, it just comes along when it does and I jump on it.
OC: IF YOU HAD ONE CHANCE TO START YOUR CAREER AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
Pru: I’d honestly say nothing. It’s been an absolute rollercoaster of ups and downs, and every one of those has led me to where I am today. I’ve always taken big risks, some have paid off, some haven’t, but I’ve always learnt something in the process.
OC: IF YOU COULD SHARE ONE PIECE OF BUSINESS ADVICE WITH OTHERS, WHAT WOUDL IT BE?
Pru: Dream big. If you can conceive it, you can create it. Kick your fear of failure to the curb, and ditch perfectionism. Keep moving forward. Breathe. Whoops – that was a quite a few, I think they’re almost like mantras for me now J
OC: GIVE US 3 WORDS OTHER PEOPLE WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE YOU
Pru: Strong. Fearless. Thoughtful.
