Our Featured HEH Alumni of the week is Sally Latham from Savyy Sally. A current HEH student, and all round social media gun!
Marketing has always been in Sally’s blood. Even throughout her 15 year “distraction” in finance, she threw herself into coming up with new and unique ways to attract clients through marketing. But it was after having children that Sally decided to follow her passion. Starting with a Facebook page in 2015 that grew to 12,000 followers in 18 months, she knew she’d found her true calling and has been in her element in digital marketing ever since.
How epic is that? Join us today as we dive into conversation with Sally about everything that lights her up, gets her in flow and her biggest takeaways from the High End Hustler Program.
Where are you right now?
Scaling phase. Taking the base I have built and bringing more people into the fold. Continuing on my trajectory as being the most prominent social media identity in the Shoalhaven!
Tea or coffee?
Definitely tea! I cannot stomach coffee after my two brothers tricked me into eating raw coffee granules (yep, they told me it was chocolate. Yet my love of chocolate has not wavered).
Tell us a bit about what you do?
I help businesses shine online through social media strategy and management, photography and copywriting. I also love coaching small business owners so they can DIY.
Why do you do what you do?
I’ve always been a writer and I love psychology, so to me marketing – particularly on social media – is a perfect combination of these things. My mission is to showcase regional businesses in the best light to show the world there are amazing things going on outside the cities.
What rituals do you have in place to help you get the most out of your day?
I start my day with a cup of tea. I am not human first thing (just ask my husband), so I need to sit with a hot cuppa before I can face the world.
How do you get into flow?
I allow ideas and concepts to wash over me until something is sparked. Once that happens I will focus on that project, and only that project, until it is done!. I won’t answer the phone, read emails or look on social media until it is all out!
What is your favourite thing about running your business?
I love that I do things my way, in times that best suit me. Sometimes that can be at 1am, sometimes I have the whole day off.
What book, podcast & song are you jamming to at the moment?
I generally read about one book per week, but unusually at the moment I have 4 books on the go! I’m reading The Life Plan by Shannah Kennedy, Confessions of a Misfit Entrepreneur by Kate Toon, Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo and am revisiting Book 1 of the True Blood Series (cause it can’t be all serious, right?) I’m also loving the No Filter podcast and of course the Owners Collective podcast!
If you could have dinner with 3 people (dead or alive), who would they be & why?
Definitely Akhenaten, a controversial pharaoh from ancient Egypt. He was a huge disruptor that lived life his own way (and changed a whole religion in the process). My dear friend Margaret (who passed away from cancer) so I could see her again and tell her how much I love her. And Ryan Reynolds. No explanation needed. *hugs*
What has been your biggest takeaway from High End Hustlers so far?
To listen to myself and follow my gut in business. Also when Pru kicked my butt the other week and told me that the only person who doesn’t see my potential is me. That was a bit of a game changer. Oh, and KJ fixing my phone phobia!!! Life changing stuff!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Running a successful marketing agency, doing lots of events and public speaking.
Best piece of business advice you have been given?
‘You either grow or start going backwards’ – Pru again!
