Marketing Directive is a remote digi-marketing partner ensuring your marketing levers are maximised to achieve growth for your business. They help businesses set their marketing direction. They have a close focus on regional small businesses, they know the constraints and opportunities first hand, and they get small business!
Meagan left her corporate job 10 years ago to move to regional NSW and live on the farm with her husband Archie. She did not let her remote location stop her from building her business, so she started her remote digi-marketing agency!
A conversation with Meagan Kennedy from Marketing Directive
Where are you right now?
Sitting in my office located on a farm outside of Warren, Central West slopes and plains of NSW.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee first up and then green tea to balance out my day and keep the energy levels going.
Tell us a bit about what you do at Marketing Directive?
Partner with brands across Australia and internationally as their remote marketing team of digi-marketing specialists. Setting the creative direction and strategy of their business to ensure all marketing levers are maximised to achieve business objectives.
Why do you do what you do?
A passion for marketing and business was fuelled whilst working in corporate businesses before moving to a remote location. It is amazing to offer professional services and an outsourced solution for business regardless of their size.
What rituals do you have in place to help you get the most out of your day?
Up before the household stirs outside to take some deep breaths to start the day. Then a 15 minute meditation, coffee and I am ready for the day! Then, review the plan for the day to be sure work and family needs are all considered and off we go.
How do you get into flow?
Clear the desk of post-it notes – don’t know why I buy them! Desk can look like tins of paint have exploded. Only check emails morning and late afternoon to avoid distractions. Write down what I need to achieve in 1 hour blocks, then focus. These sprints help keep the flow.
What is your favourite thing about running your business?
Working with a broad range of clients to solve their marketing challenges and being able to work from anywhere, what an amazing thing!
What book, podcast & song are you jamming to at the moment?
Book: Breathe and The 4 hour (juggling)
Podcast: Owners collective latest series, The Company by Skye Manson, Brandfetti for some focus
Songs: How to make gravy (Paul Kelly) Fly away (Tones and I) anything Flight facilities
If you could have dinner with 3 people (dead or alive), who would they be & why?
- Nelson Mandella!
- Gai Waterhouse – have always been fascinated by her confidence, sheer grit and determination to stay in her own lane and forge ahead, particularly with the respect and style she has in a male dominated industry.
- Kerry O’Keefe – grew up watching cricket and I thoroughly enjoy his wit and humour as a commentator, what an experience it would be to dine with him!
What has been your biggest takeaway from High-End Hustlers so far?
Confidence and mindset shift to be bold and step into a space I have never owned before – controlling my business, not it controlling me, believing in myself and to jump in and take the risk!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Proudly supporting the growth of Marketing Directive and a passionate team working from anywhere with amazing businesses.
Best piece of business advice you have been given?
‘The answer is probably yes’ – can’t tell you how many permission slips I was dished to just do it!
