You get out of your Tardis and voila – you bump into your future self 365 days from now and decide to have a casual chat and a coco-latte – no biggie.

 

But what do you really want to ask?

 

How about – what might my business look like in just 52 weeks on the path I am taking now and can I even imagine what stage it will be at by then? Real profit, TV appearances, influencer brand collaborations, media calling, international distribution, global recognition and awards….

 

Bridget Carmady of Clemence Organics has such a startup tale. Just a short 12 months ago, she was in the very beginnings of her organic skincare brand and now, an internationally award winning naturopathically formulated range of products – she is having her door worn down from all the world comin’ a knocking.

 

OC: When did you realize you just HAD to create Clemence Organics?

 

BC: It was after a trip to France a few years ago where I visited natural skincare brands, it inspired me. I realized that they had started small too. When I came home, I knew I had to get a new brand name and a new website. It changed everything and I got really serious about making my products!

 

OC: What has been the real catalyst for your business growth in the last 12 months?

 

BC: I started OC Mastermind in February last year and launched Clemence in August 2016. I learned so much, it was a brain explosion, after having two small children, it was the first time I had focused on what I really wanted for a long time. I felt so alive, I grew so rapidly. I loved the challenge. It was a massive confidence boost.

 

OC: How did your brand gain visibility so quickly after your launch?

 

BC: I won the Natural Beauty Awards in October. It was amazing for my brand as it’s a global competition with international brands entering. It gave me visibility, it helped with opportunities, it gave me confidence with my brand to be recognized in my industry. It was like, YES, you are doing the right thing!

 

OC: How did you grow partnerships and relationships along the way?

 

BC: The OC opened up my mind to a whole community of great people, I already had friends, but they were not on the same journey of business to share it with. The enthusiasm was infectious. It gave me juice to keep me going!

1. START BEFORE YOU ARE READY.

 

One of Pru’s big things! You will never be 100% ready. And you are always more ready than you think. I can be particular, but I am realistic that there is no such thing as perfect. Remember big companies are doing this every day too.

 

2. ITS TRIAL AND ERROR.

 

I had a major issue with some special labels for my packaging that I had ordered that started rubbing off! I just had to accept that these things can happen. You can’t research that. Move on.

 

3. GO WITH YOUR GUT INSTINCT.

 

When I have made mistakes, I feel like it was because I didn’t listen to my gut. So now I do that, I always listen and its always right.
